Michelina (Mickey) is a single parent of two children and studied for her Foundation Degree on a par t-time basis, while working as a Special Support Assistant in a secondary school. The school gave her the time of f to attend her course.
Mickey came from hairdressing to working as a volunteer in a primary school. There she gained paid employment and took a Teaching Assistant course, followed by the Special Support Assistant course. She felt that she could do more, so she started the Foundation Degree. She has changed jobs several times, each time with an improvement in hours and level. She is now asked for her opinions in school, and is confident enough to voice them, as a result of taking the Foundation Degree.
