What are Foundation Degrees?
This qualification was introduced in 2000 and is rapidly growing in popularity. Foundation degrees are developed by employers in partnership with universities and colleges. They combine academic study with work-based learning and experience.
Employers like Foundation Degrees because they offer a cost effective way of training staff in the higher level skills that their business needs to compete.
There are 127 Foundation Degrees currently offered in Lancashire by 15 different universities and colleges.
Sector Skills Councils and other professional bodies are also actively involved in developing and delivering Foundation Degrees.
Who are they for?
Foundation Degrees are aimed primarily at people who are in work and want to increase their skills and gain a higher level qualification that is relevant to their work. It is a particularly relevant qualification for those working in higher technical and associate professional positions, and those moving on from advanced modern apprenticeships, NVQs and vocational A-levels.
